A Level Music Tuition

Welcome to spmusic.co.uk

I offer specialist A Level Music tuition in Chester for students studying Music at A Level who would benefit from additional guidance and support alongside their school studies. A Level Music is a demanding and rewarding subject that requires a deeper level of musical understanding, analytical thinking and creative development. Individual tuition can help students strengthen their skills, build confidence and achieve their full potential.

With extensive experience as a music teacher, examiner and practising musician, I support students in developing the musical, academic and practical skills needed to succeed at A Level and prepare for further study in music if desired.

How A Level Music Tuition Can Help

A Level Music requires students to develop advanced abilities in analysis, composition, performance and musical understanding. One-to-one tuition allows students to explore these areas in depth and receive personalised guidance tailored to their course requirements.

Lessons can support students to:

  • Develop deeper analytical and listening skills
  • Strengthen their understanding of harmony, structure and musical techniques
  • Improve essay writing and exam responses
  • Develop confidence in discussing and analysing musical works
  • Refine composition techniques and musical ideas
  • Prepare effectively for written examinations

Each lesson is adapted to the specific needs of the student and the expectations of their examination board.

Support for Different Exam Boards

I am able to support students studying a range of A Level Music specifications, including:

  • AQA
  • Edexcel
  • OCR
  • Eduqas

Lessons are tailored to match the precise requirements of the student’s course and areas where they may need additional support.

Composition Guidance

Composition is a significant part of most A Level Music courses and often benefits from individual guidance.

Lessons can help students to:

  • Develop and refine musical ideas
  • Structure compositions effectively
  • Explore harmony, texture and musical language
  • Strengthen stylistic awareness
  • Improve coursework submissions

Students are encouraged to develop their own musical voice while ensuring their compositions meet the assessment criteria required for their course.

Performance Preparation

A Level Music includes assessed performance, often requiring a high standard of musical interpretation and technical control.

Tuition can support students in:

  • Selecting appropriate repertoire
  • Developing performance confidence
  • Refining musical interpretation
  • Preparing effectively for recorded or live performance assessments

Students who already receive instrumental tuition can integrate their A Level preparation alongside their instrumental studies.

Who This Is For

A Level Music tuition may be particularly beneficial for students who:

  • Want to strengthen their analytical and listening skills
  • Need additional support with composition coursework
  • Would like guidance with essay writing and exam preparation
  • Are aiming for high grades at A Level
  • Are considering studying music at university or conservatoire

Lessons provide the opportunity for detailed discussion, explanation and musical exploration that can be difficult to achieve in a busy classroom environment.

Lesson Length and Fees

Lessons are available as:

  • 45 minutes – £35
  • 60 minutes – £45

Sessions are usually arranged on a weekly or fortnightly basis, depending on the student’s needs and the stage of their course.

Getting Started

If you or your child are studying A Level Music and would benefit from additional support, please feel free to get in touch to discuss how tuition might help.

I am always happy to have an informal conversation about the student’s current progress, their areas of focus within the course, and how lessons can help them feel more confident and prepared for their A Level assessments.
